Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Championships

Today I made my hotel reservations for the 2013 Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Championships at Lamplight on August 22 - 25!!!  Turns out the I have THREE boys up in the rankings, looking like they will make the cut for the Finals. (Fingers crossed).
QREDIT & M. Bragsdell at 4 years
Tamarinde and her two boys from 2009

I am trying to imagine what I will feel like......... Nervous? Excited? Proud? Validated? And TWO of them are in the 4 year old division .........
Who will I root for????  Oh my, oh my.

In the Four Year Old Division, as of last Friday, FLORETIENNE (the bay) by Florestan out of Tamarinde by Jazz - Matador II is in second place nationwide.
His older brother, QUANTUM JAZZ ( chestnut by Quaterback) also out of Tamarinde (by ET) is in 8th place.
Both are ridden by Debbie HIll and owned by Leslie Waterman.

In the Five Year Old Division, our well known stallion , QREDIT by Quaterback out of Dream Rubina by Dream of Glory - Rubinstein, is right now in 9th, so hopefully will get a bid for the Finals. I am amazed that he can breed a full book of mares AND compete with attention and strength. But, he is capably ridden by Chris Hickey , owned by Hilltop Farm.

Dream Rubina also produced the 4 year old Dressage Young Horse Champion in NSW,  Australia! You know that handsome W.ELLINGTON by Wynton.
He is co-owned by Andrew Buckley and Tracey Watson, ridden by Andrew.

It is a big year for our 38 year old breeding program.

Since Cookie is going out of town for the summer, we thought we had better do a quick video of TEMPLAR , at 6 weeks of age, to document his growing up!

Templar is a super fun colt, very manly and still oh so classy.

And he brings home the 4 year old Championship for owner/rider Andrew Buckley and co--owner Tracey Watson..... and to all his family at Yancey Farms!!

W.Ellington is by Wynton out of Dream Rubina

He has the same winning ways as his older half brother, QREDIT (by Quaterback), Hilltop Farm.

Little tidbits of news from Yancey Farms....

Breeding season has been kind so far...........
W. ELLINGTON (WYNTON x DREAM RUBINA)

So far, so good for the little embryo from WYNTON and DREAM RUBINA . Word from Vet is that he/she is in good shape.

Hopefully, W. Ellington will have a full brother or sister in 2014!!

The colt option is for sale in the recip mare.

TAMARINDE (JAZZ - Matador II- Rubinstein - Welt As)
My beautiful and excellent producing mare, TAMARINDE, is in foal to DE NIRO for 2014. Tamarinde has been sold. I know - it's a shock for me too.

You can read more about her on my "Our Horses" page. All of her foals had been Premium awarded by German Oldenburg Verband, and this past year I presented her VOICE filly "Hear Me Sing" to the KWPN and she was RESERVE CHAMPION KWPN foal of North America. Top, top mare; Keur, Sport Predicate Dressage. She is full sister to WYNTON

We also have a foal coming by this supple and interesting young stallion Quantensprung (Quando-Quando - Donnerhall - Laurie's Crusader) also out of our cornerstone mare, Dream Rubina (Dream of Glory - Rubinstein)

This baby is an early one and is also in a recip mare.

It should be a gorgeous liver chestnut with modern type and supple movement, while retaining substance from Rubina. Colt option for sale.

HOLY SMOKES!

Now, THIS is what frozen semen should look like when just thawed!
This is from the young stallion, QUANTENSPRUNG, from Klosterhof Medingen. They employed a new freeze technique this year for their stallions DeNiro and Quantensprung. Looks like it worked really well.
This "amateur" clip shows excellent concentration, excellent progressive motility and velocity. Look at those little guys go!
I wanted you to see what good frozen really looks like.
And, if you want to see the stallion, this is QUANTENSPRUNG (Quando -Quando- Donnerhall - Lauries Crusador xx - Moltke
QUANTENSPRUNG
My mare, DREAM RUBINA, gave us a nice embryo from that breeding! His price per dose is $750 this year.

A horse of a different color! "COCKPIT"

It is a rarity these days to see a gorgeous grey stallion in dressage breeding. This magnificent Westfalen stallion comes from strong Holsteiner blood through his sire, Cantus (Caletto I - Roman)
His dam was by Pit (Pilot - Fruhlingstraum II)
Influenced from his Great Grandsire, the great RAMZES AA

COCKPIT had an excellent stallion performance tets at Medingen, and his high scores for rideability and jumping put him in first place. A short time later he became one of the all time most expensive horses at the auction of Muenster-Handorf. After first and other high placings at L and M levels tests for young dressage horses, he qualified for the Bundeschampionats for dressage horses in 2000 and 2001. He competed successfully at Intermediare with Katrin Luze in Germany before he was sold to France.
In addition being a talented dressage horse, Cockpit jumps as well as the best show jumpers - this is verified by his fine pedigree. His sire is the monumental Cantus, out of the celebrated Holsteiner 162 bloodline, which produced numerous champions, including Carthago, Coster, Feinschnitt, Sapphire, Sandro Kan, Santiago Z, Calvaro ridden by Will Mellinger and the stallion, Come On. The sire of his dam is the fabulous Pilot, and in his third generation, we find Frühlingsball. Cockpit is descended from the mare, Schild-amsel’s sweeping dynasty that goes back to the 1800s.
See more about him and his offspring on his stallion page on my website. I chose COCKPIT to bring in some valuable old blood, blood of true athletes that we might be missing in some of today's fancy young stallions. I don't want us to forget foundation and he fits in with my long time and original breeding goal of producing generous, all round athletes. Frozen semen is due to arrive from France mid Feb. Reasonably priced at $675 per dose.

Please NOTICE this wonderful , sexy young stallion! DARK PRESIDENT

Wynton - G Ramiro Z - Pion

Dark President is a son of Wynton (now winning at Gran Prix at the age of 9  with Madeleine Witte-Vrees.)
Mother Lola-F is a ster preferent mare by G. Ramiro Z.
Grandmother Ciola is a preferred mare by Pion, she is the mother of the KWPN approved stallion Houston.

He is a wonderful type, a wonderful character and is doing a very good job under saddle. Last year our test breeding was perfect with his frozen semen. The Veterinarian went out of her way to call and tell me how unbelievably good the semen was, and mare was subsequently checked in foal.
Please give this good young Dutch stallion your attention and consideration. At $625 per dose, I believe he is a sure bet.

Qredit is great grandson of my foundation Trakehner mare, Helena. Handsome man....... and I counted - there are 5 stallions Hadrian, Harper, Sirringo, Qredit and W.Ellington from that original dam line of Helena. Quite a mare....

ABKE filly keeps winning on the line in Canada

Aritzia, an F1 Canadian Sport Horse filly bred and owned by Four Leaf Farms and Danielle Gregoire of Richmond, Ontario has an impressive history of wins since she started showing on the line as a foal.
Aritzia handled by Ronnie Davidson

Among them are the 2009 CSH National Foal Championship and since, has earned many CSH championships, including Grand Champion Canadian Sport Horse at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 2009, 2010 and 2012.
Her most prestigious honour to date came on the final Saturday of the 2012 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair when she was declared winner of the Governor Genera’s Cup, considered the top prize for Canadian-bred three-year-olds that show potential as sport horses in the disciplines of hunter, jumping, eventing or dressage.
Aritzia is by European-based Hanoverian jumper stallion Abke out of an imported Hanoverian mare, Licorne (by Lemon Park). Danielle Gregoire and husband Ed Stewart added Licorne to their small sport horse breeding program at Four Leaf Farms to improve their broodmare band. When they bought her, she was in foal to Rotspon and produced a filly, Rumtanzen, in 2006.
Danielle says they learned about sport horse breeding by talking to top breeders in Canada and the U.S. They have also relied on the advice of Artizia’s handler, Ronnie Davidson, a veteran with many Cup wins to his credit.
Breeder Judy Yancey of Yancey Farms in Florida, who is also a frozen semen dealer, helped them choose Abke for Licorne. Danielle says her philosophy is to look at the mare’s strengths and improve on her without trying to change her.
Four Leaf Farms strives for quality rather than quantity and has just one or two foals a year. Aritzia’s full sister, All She Wrote, has started following in her sibling’s footsteps and finished as Reserve Champion to Aritizia’s Grand Champion at the CSH Breeders Show at the Royal.
 Sire ABKE
Danielle advises small breeders not to be afraid to ask more experienced breeders’ for their opinions or for answers to questions, no matter how trivial they may seem. Hearing their feedback can be an invaluable in furthering your education about the breeding industry, she has found.

Only two foals to go to inspection today....

Well, this was another first for me. The first time since 1981, when I began doing my registration business with the German Oldenburg Verband, that I did not have the inspection on my own farm ........ and the first time I had only two foals to present!

But both boys did very well. FLAMBEAU (left)
earned his Premium Award. He is by Florestan out of Heide von Brandenburg (Stars). He is a handsome, powerful colt of extraordinary pedigree.
Tyra Vernon, owner

And QHRISTOPHER was a fancy boy today and not only earned his Premium Award, but also a Foal of Distinction. He is by Quaterback out of Rainy Romance . Lesley Eden, Owner.

Thank you Cookie for all the prep work as well as photos~

White Lion finding his power!

The White Lion is growing so well, showing his balance and power ..... like his Daddy! (Branca Leao)

White Lion w his Aunt Shimmer

His Genetic testing report was interesting - seems he has all of the colors of the rainbow!
He is Ee; Black based but carries a recessive copy of the Red gene
Aa; carries one copy of the Agouti gene
CrCr; Homozygous. Double Dilute - he carries two copies of the Cream Dilution gene
He should be able to sire smoky black, buckskin, palomino, cremello, perlino, yellow dun, lilac dun, claybank dun, and on and on and on!

From his quality of conformation, muscling, type, character, movement and pedigree, I believe he could be a good breeding stallion as well as competition horse like his Daddy.

Tamarinde's first child..... ! HOT JAZZ

I keep meaning to share this photo with you.

Do you remember this glorious colt? This is TAMARINDE's first born, an et that was carried by a black Kiger mare.

His sire is HOTLINE, who, at the time was a young name in breeding. Hotline has now proven to be a very good sire of horses with strong interior qualities.

The lovely rider is Jazzy's proud owner, Linda Parelli. He is now 5 years old and a shining beauty, just like his Mom. Thank you for the update, Linda.
